Orka Investments, an alternative investment and advisory business, has purchased a 250-bed student accommodation asset near Manchester, React News can reveal.

Riverside House, a modern student development in Salford, is the latest asset to be added to a growing portfolio of student schemes Orka has been building around the UK. React News understands the purchase price was around £27m.

The development is within walking distance to the University of Salford campus and Salford Central train station, while Manchester city centre is close by.

Background to Orka

Orka is a technology-driven investment advisory firm, founded by Raoul Malhotra and Oskar Sköldberg in 2020, which uses a club investment model to give investors direct access to real estate opportunities. It sources and manages investments on behalf of global investors and also works in partnerships.

In 2021 Orka, alongside Bain Capital, bought the 72-room Park Lane Mews Hotel and 17 adjacent residential units in Mayfair.

Orka has been quietly buying UK student accommodation assets as part of a wider agglomeration strategy, with Riverside House the latest addition.
